When Knut Wolfgang Nörr completed the second volume of his opus magnum »Die Republik der Wirtschaft«, he declined to continue his chronicles of German economic-legal history up to the present. Instead, Nörr insisted on a certain distance between historians and their chosen eras of study. This article takes precisely the opposite approach. It extends the path paved by Knut Wolfgang Nörr to examine legal institutions in the light of recent economic booms and crises: from German reunification to Brexit.
